12V Alternator for Mitsubishi

Single-phase Alternator

Single phase alternator has multiple armature coils connected in series to form a single winding. The single phase output is taken across both terminals of the armature winding.

Two-phase Alternator

Two-phase alternator generates two-phase output. It has two separate armature windings. The armature windings are placed in such a way when one winding has maximum flux, the other has zero flux. Each winding generates a single phase output where both phases have a 90° phase difference.

Three-phase Alternator

In the three-phase alternator, there are three armature windings whose output voltage is 120° apart. It has three output terminals each for a separate phase.

Applications of Alternator

Power Generation Plants: Alternators are commonly used in power plants to generate electricity. They are often driven by steam turbines, gas turbines, or diesel engines.

Automotive & Locomotive: Alternators are used in vehicles to charge the battery and power the electrical system when the engine is running. They have largely replaced older generators in this application due to their higher efficiency and reliability.

Aircraft & Radio Frequency Transmission: Alternators are used in aircraft to generate electricity for onboard systems, including avionics, lighting, and other electrical components. They are often driven by the aircraft’s engines.

Industrial Applications

Alternators are used in various industrial applications to provide electrical power for machinery, equipment, and other systems.

Standby and Emergency Power

Alternators are used in standby and emergency power systems, such as backup generators, to provide electricity in case of power outages or other emergencies.

Renewable Energy

Alternators are used in some renewable energy systems, such as wind turbines and hydroelectric plants, to generate electricity from natural sources of energy.

Marine and Navy Boats Applications

Alternators are used in marine applications to generate electricity for ships and boats, often driven by the main engine or auxiliary engines.

Alternator Precautions

Never reverse the battery connections. Always check the battery polarity visually. This is to be done before any connections are made to ensure that all of the connections correspond to the battery ground polarity of the truck.

Booster batteries must be connected properly. Make sure the positive cable of the booster battery is connected to the positive terminal of the battery which is getting the boost.

Disconnect the battery cables before using a fast charger; the charger has a tendency to force current through the diodes in the opposite direction for which they were designed.

Never use a fast charger as a booster for starting the truck.

Never disconnect the voltage regulator while the engine is running, unless as noted for testing purposes.

Do not ground the alternator output terminal.

Do not operate the alternator on an open circuit with the field energized. Make sure that all connections within the circuit are clean and tight.

Do not attempt to polarize the alternator.

Disconnect the battery cables and remove the alternator before using an electric arc welder on the truck.

Protect the alternator from excessive moisture. If the engine is to be steam cleaned, cover or remove the alternator.

Do not use test lamps of more than 12 volts for checking diode continuity.

Alternator Installation

● Physically compare the replacement alternator to the original. Compare the case and pulley offsets, pulley size and type, pivot and adjustment hole locations, and wire connector locations or rear housing clocking with the original alternator.

● Install the mounting bracket(s). Do not completely tighten the bolts at this time.

● Support the alternator and fasten it into position. Do not completely tighten the bolts at this time.

● Install the drive belt(s). If the drive belt(s) was found to be worn, stretched, cracked, oily, or glazed during the charging system inspection, replace the belt(s).

● Set the belt tension while tightening the mounting and adjusting bolts. Be sure to set the belt tension and torque the mounting bolts to the vehicle manufacturer’s recommended specifications. CAUTION: DO NOT pry or hit the alternator housing to adjust belt tension.

● Check the drive belt alignment between the alternator pulley and drive pulley(s). Be sure there is no interference between the drive belt(s) and other components.

● Re-connect the wire connector(s) to their proper location on the alternator. Be sure there is no interference between the wire harness and other components.

● Re-inspect that all components are correctly installed, all threaded fasteners properly torqued and there is no interference between components.

● Re-connect the battery negative cable.

● Start the engine and be sure there is no interference between components. Let the engine idle for 10 minutes to break-in the drive belt(s). Readjust the drive belt(s) using the “used” tension specification.

● Shut the engine off and re-inspect that all components are correctly installed, all fasteners properly torqued and there is no interference between components.

● Re-test the charging system to verify it is performing to the vehicle manufacturer’s specifications.

Our Quality Control

Material Control

The materials of our products are strictly controlled and are made of high-quality materials. For example, gears, bearings, rotors and other components are usually made of special metal materials that are resistant to high temperatures and wear.

Quality Management Of The Production Process

Our factory follows ISO 9001 or similar quality management standards to ensure that the quality of products is strictly controlled from design, production to after-sales service.

Motor Performance Test

After production, we will conduct a comprehensive electrical performance test on the motor part of the starter, including voltage, current, current fluctuation, power and efficiency.

Mechanical Component Inspection

Our quality inspection team will check the tooth shape, hardness, surface finish of the gears and the rolling accuracy of the bearings.

Durability Test

We will perform high-temperature cycle tests on all electrical and mechanical components, and simulate vibration and impact tests to ensure that the components will not loosen, wear or fail during long-term vibration.

Environmental Adaptability Test

Generally, all starters need to pass salt spray tests, moisture and waterproof tests; and we will start the motor and mechanical components of the starter in a low-temperature environment to check the antifreeze performance of the starter.

FAQ

Q: What are the signs of a bad alternator?

A: Trouble starting your car.
Frequent stalling.
Whining or screeching noise after the vehicle starts.
Dim or overly bright lights.
Smell of burning rubber or wires.
Dead battery.
Battery dashboard warning light is on.

Q: What to check before replacing an alternator?

A: Condition: Inspect the alternator for signs of wear, corrosion, or damage. Look for scratches, dents, or any signs of leakage. Testing: If possible, test the alternator before purchasing. Check for proper voltage output (typically around 13.5 to 14.5 volts) and listen for unusual noises when it's running.

Q: What are the fundamentals of alternator?

A: An alternator works together with the battery to supply power for the electrical components of the vehicle. The output of an alternator is direct current (DC). When the alternator pulley is rotated, alternating current (AC) passes through a magnetic field and an electrical current is generated.

Q: How do I know what size alternator I need?

A: To determine what size alternator you need, you can calculate your vehicle's total electrical load using an ammeter or by checking the accessory fuses.

Q: How long should an alternator last?

A: An alternator typically lasts between 7 years and 150,000 miles, but there's no set amount of time it's designed to last.

Q: Can you drive with a bad alternator?

A: While you technically can drive a car with a bad alternator for a short period of time if your battery is fully charged, it is not recommended as it can be very dangerous and you should get it fixed as soon as possible; driving with a faulty alternator can lead to your car stalling when the battery runs out of power, potentially leaving you stranded, and can also damage other electrical components in your vehicle.
